On the 25th November, Prof. Katharina Kranzer, presented on research capacity building at the Annual Health Research Ethics Forum hosted by Medical Research Council of Zimbabwe. The theme of this forum was “Promoting Communities at the Centre of Health Research: Lessons Learnt from Pandemics/Epidemics.” Some key points that were raised from her talk was a need for making available dedicated funding for fellowships and trainings, having trained and engaged supervisor pools, motivated junior researchers and more. A panel discussion on community engagement in research was also held which raised important questions on the necessity of researchers, if researches were to be led by communities. In conclusion, it was a highly engaging experience for all that were in attendance. Interesting ideas were shared on placing communities front and centre in health research.
